Why is Lake Sebu famous?


Lake Sebu is one of the Philippines' most important watersheds and a major provider of irrigation to the provinces of Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato. It is located in the ancestral domain of the T'boli and Ubo tribes. The DOT has promoted the lake as one of the prime eco-tourism destinations in Mindanao.

It framed Filipino ancestry through waves: Negritos, Indonesians, Malays, and later foreign traders. But in 2025, this model is being questioned — and replaced by a richer, more accurate story rooted in DNA, archaeology, and language. The more accepted theory today? June 15, 1991: Mt. Pinatubo Eruption Devastates the Philippines

On June 15, 1991, Mt. Pinatubo on the Philippine island of Luzon erupted with a massive blow. Pinatubo is most notorious for its VEI-6 eruption on June 15, 1991, the second-largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta in Alaska. Complicating the eruption was the arrival of Typhoon Yunya, bringing a lethal mix of ash and rain to towns and cities surrounding the volcano. Predictions at the onset of the climactic eruption led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from the surrounding areas, saving many lives. Surrounding areas were severely damaged by pyroclastic surges, pyroclastic falls, and subsequently, by the flooding lahars caused by rainwater re-mobilizing earlier volcanic deposits. Wikipedia Baybayin  ( Tagalog pronunciation:  [bai̯ˈba:jɪn] ,  ᜊᜊᜌᜒ , virama-krus-kudlit:  ᜊᜌ᜔ᜊᜌᜒᜈ᜔ , virama-pamudpod:  ᜊᜌ᜴ᜊᜌᜒᜈ᜴   ; also known incorrectly as  Alibata ) is an old  writing system  that was used in the Philippines. It is an  alphasyllabary  belonging to the family of the  Brahmic scripts . It was widely used in  Luzon  and other parts of the  Philippines  during the 16th and 17th centuries before being supplanted by the  Latin alphabet . The characters are in the  Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP)  of  Unicode , proposed to be encoded in 1998 by  Michael Everson  together with three other known  indigenous scripts of the Philippines .
