Angkan-Angkan is a reunion of century old family clans in Marikina, which is held annually coinciding with Marikinas founding anniversary.



It has as its primary mission of reviving strong family ties, encourage Marikeños to trace their roots and by looking into the past, retrieve their legacy.

June 15, 1991: Mt. Pinatubo Eruption Devastates the Philippines

On June 15, 1991, Mt. Pinatubo on the Philippine island of Luzon erupted with a massive blow. Pinatubo is most notorious for its VEI-6 eruption on June 15, 1991, the second-largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta in Alaska. Complicating the eruption was the arrival of Typhoon Yunya, bringing a lethal mix of ash and rain to towns and cities surrounding the volcano. Predictions at the onset of the climactic eruption led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from the surrounding areas, saving many lives. Surrounding areas were severely damaged by pyroclastic surges, pyroclastic falls, and subsequently, by the flooding lahars caused by rainwater re-mobilizing earlier volcanic deposits. Nineteen journalists from Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas, along with representatives from the Mindanao Institute of Journalism, MindaNews, Media Impact Philippines, and International Media Support, gathered Thursday, November 21, at the site of the 2009 Maguindanao massacre in Barangay Silay, Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur. The event took place two days before the 15th anniversary of the deadly attack which killed 58 people, 32 of them journalists.
