Asian Mythology | Mythlok In ancient #Tagalog, the Supreme Being known as Bathala Maykapal, commonly known as Bathala, is regarded as the creator and ruler of the universe. This term was also used for lesser beings such as personal spirits, omen birds, comets, and other heavenly bodies. It was after the Spanish missionaries came to the #Philippines that Bathala Maykapal became known as a Christian God. Before the 19th century, the term was never used since it was replaced by the words Panginoon and Diyos. Bathala is the #creator of everything in the universe. He is said to have appeared during various natural phenomenon such as a flood, a fire, and an earthquake, and he declared his authority over the world. The origin or where Bathala came from is not known or documented. The worship of Bathala, although common across the various islands and tribes of the #Philippines, is most prominent in the Luzon area and its indigenous tribes. Wikipedia Baybayin  ( Tagalog pronunciation:  [bai̯ˈba:jɪn] ,  ᜊᜊᜌᜒ , virama-krus-kudlit:  ᜊᜌ᜔ᜊᜌᜒᜈ᜔ , virama-pamudpod:  ᜊᜌ᜴ᜊᜌᜒᜈ᜴   ; also known incorrectly as  Alibata ) is an old  writing system  that was used in the Philippines. It is an  alphasyllabary  belonging to the family of the  Brahmic scripts . It was widely used in  Luzon  and other parts of the  Philippines  during the 16th and 17th centuries before being supplanted by the  Latin alphabet . The characters are in the  Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP)  of  Unicode , proposed to be encoded in 1998 by  Michael Everson  together with three other known  indigenous scripts of the Philippines . Nineteen journalists from Central Visayas and Eastern Visayas, along with representatives from the Mindanao Institute of Journalism, MindaNews, Media Impact Philippines, and International Media Support, gathered Thursday, November 21, at the site of the 2009 Maguindanao massacre in Barangay Silay, Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur. The event took place two days before the 15th anniversary of the deadly attack which killed 58 people, 32 of them journalists.

June 15, 1991: Mt. Pinatubo Eruption Devastates the Philippines

On June 15, 1991, Mt. Pinatubo on the Philippine island of Luzon erupted with a massive blow. Pinatubo is most notorious for its VEI-6 eruption on June 15, 1991, the second-largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta in Alaska. Complicating the eruption was the arrival of Typhoon Yunya, bringing a lethal mix of ash and rain to towns and cities surrounding the volcano. Predictions at the onset of the climactic eruption led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from the surrounding areas, saving many lives. Surrounding areas were severely damaged by pyroclastic surges, pyroclastic falls, and subsequently, by the flooding lahars caused by rainwater re-mobilizing earlier volcanic deposits. This caused extensive destruction to infrastructure and changed river systems for years after the eruption. Minor dome-forming eruptions inside the caldera continued from 1992 to 1993.
